Pest-Proofing Your Home

No one wants to have pests invade their home. Our experts are very happy to help get rid of the pests and exclude them from getting in. But there are things you can do every day to help keep them out:

Outside:

  • Cut branches from overhanging the roof, trim brush from around the base of your home;
  • Stack firewood away from the house and off the ground; the best place to store firewood is an enclosed out-building.
  • Rotate your compost or use a system that is off the ground and rotatable, especially if you put food scraps in your compost. (Decaying organic matter is an attractive nesting material for many creatures.);
  • Keep gutters and storm drains free of debris; and
  • Keep trash bags sealed and in closed garbage cans.

Inside:

  • Clean up spills, crumbs and clutter;
  • Empty your wastebaskets often;
  • Dispose of uneaten pest food; and
  • Store food in pest-proof containers.
